JakartaEE & Building Kotlin DSL's

JavaForum

FOOD: Yes

LEVEL: Intermediate

Tonight's JavaForum will have two talks;

First talk – Building Kotlin DSL's

Kotlin has rapidly become a popular programming language on the JVM due to its fast learning curve, powerful-enough features and pragmatism. Going a bit beyond the basics and one will find great support of building nice DSL's. This talk will be mostly about that. We'll start with an introduction to Kotlin to get everyone up to speed and continue looking at two ways of building DSL's in Kotlin. We'll do this by exploring two open source libraries written in Kotlin. The first one is the Awaitility Kotlin DSL, a library that helps us test asynchronous systems, and the second one is Kystrix, a DSL wrapping the Hystrix fault-tolerance library from Netflix.

Speaker

Johan Haleby is a developer working at Parkster with a strong passion for software development. He has founded and contributed to numerous open source projects such as PowerMock, REST Assured and Awaitility and has spoken at several international conferences and user groups.

Second talk – Jakarta EE - The New Home of Cloud Native Java

Jakarta EE is taking over the relay baton from Java EE as a community effort in the Eclipse Foundation with the focus on enabling community-driven collaboration and open innovation for the cloud. The transfer of the Java EE technologies to Eclipse Foundation also opens up for very interesting synergies and collaboration with the Eclipse MicroProfile projects. This session will give you an update on the current state of Jakarta EE and look ahead at how the continued development of the platform will look like.

Speaker
Ivar Grimstad is a Java Champion, Oracle Developer Champion and JUG Leader working as Principal Consultant for Cybercom Group in Sweden.
He is the PMC Lead for Eclipse Enterprise for Java (EE4J) and involved in the forming of Jakarta EE. He is also in the Java Community Process as a member of the Executive Committee, Spec Lead for JSR 371 (MVC 1.0) and has served as Expert Group Member for a number of JSRs, such as JSR 375 (Java EE Security API).
Ivar is also involved in Eclipse MicroProfile as well as being an Apache NetBeans Committer and a frequent speaker at International developer conferences.
