THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Welcome to the Critical Tech Holiday wrap-up. We would like to take this opportunity to do a retrospect over the past year and look forward to what we can achieve together for 2019.
In this retrospect you are welcome to share your biggest Critical tech experience for 2018 and also suggest topics you would like to us to dive deeper into during next year. Of course, we’ll do a workshop together to identify interesting topics.
If you feel like it, you are welcome to do a spontaneous lightening talk. The lightning talk format is maximum 5 minutes.
About two years ago we started critical tech by putting our heads together and identifying topics we would like to learn more about. In December 2016, we clustered topics such as AI, VR, ML, biometrics, online victimisation, and flow-based programming. While in December 2017, we again identified certain interest in the areas of data science, cross-discipline approaches to tech, biohacking and of course IoT and AI.
We managed to cover most of the topics throughout the year. We’ve had speakers sharing their knowledge about different areas of ML (How to fool AI, How to turn yourself into a tea pot? Adversarial examples in AI). We’ve also had talks and workshops on biohacking, showing us how we could upgrade our bodies with technical components but also increasing life expectancy by taking very good care of our bodies. Questions and almost fantasies arose of what would we do when we become immortal and everything around us is automated? Very interesting discussion indeed! We have also crossed over to the legal sphere and the healthcare sector, exploring how technological development impact these industries. Our biggest “aha” was realising how important it is to constantly drive the interdisciplinary approach, in order to learn from each other and solve actual problems.
We are very thankful for all these great talks that would have only been possible by support from our amazing speakers and the great participants that showed interest, curiosity and took that time to share their thoughts and knowledge with us.
